  • Exclusive | Filecoin public beta battlefield “1475”

Filecoin, the first blockchain project closely integrated with the real economy after bitcoin and ethereum, has been favored by many blockchain advocates.

Not only did it raise $257m in 2017, but it is also widely regarded as a champion of decentralised storage across the technology industry.

If there’s one thing that’s going to be hot in blockchain tech circles in December 2019, it’s Filecoin’s December 12 (Singapore time) test.

Although Filecoin has been in public beta for less than 10 days, the race around the Lotus version of the test network is full of excitement and excitement.

During this period, many hot words were repeatedly mentioned.

“The first”

List of “rush”

“Attack”

“Y”

There is another interesting miner code — 1475.

  • 一、First, first? Or hit the charts?

Singapore time at 1:55 a.m on December 12, net Filecoin test run away and the number of miners fire all night, most of all team members to join the race, about five hours later, the first unofficial node t01081 appear in the list, before long, the node t01116 thus, surpassed the official “pre dig” node, first rushed to calculate force list first.

Officials were also surprised.

Node t01116 first title spread like wildfire, the mood of the community was instantly ignited, even the competitors have lamented: too fast!

Emotional transmission also has the butterfly effect, which rapidly ferments through the community, strongly stimulating the adrenaline of all nodes and members of the community.

What’s more, they openly peddle their business:

“Brush rank, want to brush the number of brush the number!”

“№1” has become the sole target for more non-top manufacturers to respond to the market, as if only to reach the top to prove their technical strength.

Soon, it was reported that “the t01116 and t01081 node teams were so well prepared to test the network that analysts believe they used hundreds of devices.”

Then, the title “800,000 machines hit the list? 50 machines run together? The core idea is that companies use cluster mining to send nodes to the top of the list at high cost.

The first time the community gets into a debate, is it number one or number one?

Each holds its own.

No compromise.

I can’t figure it out.

二、”Who is t01475?”

At 21:45 PM on the 12th, Why, Filecoin’s official head of technology, suddenly posted a “missing person” on Slack:

If you are miner t01475, please send me a personal message.

Why also humorously suggests that for miners like t01475 who find important bugs, he’s willing to give them a T-shirt or something else as a reward.

“Who is t01475?”

“What’s that important bug?”

The original node t01475 found a bug in the network during the test run, which may be used to greatly improve the block rate. After trying to test this judgment, t01475 did indeed get a lot of packaging rights and quickly appeared at the top of the Block Won list.

This anomaly caught the eye of Why, who discovered that it was indeed an important bug and publicly “offered a reward” for finding the t01475 miner.

However, t01475 did not publicly claim the node on Slack. Instead, it contacted Why privately and arranged a “defensive battle” with him to check the stability of the test network.

Thus, in the same way, t01475 verified the other two potential opportunities to increase the burst block, both of which obtained a large chunk out rate.

On the 15th, Why told t01475 that he thought they must have done something right. T01475 asked Why to pay attention to time migration and combined attack.

The next day, screenshots of t01475’s chat with Why were posted to the community.

But this did not cause too much attention, because at that time the community focus on the power ranking, almost no one to talk about the block rate.

The twist in the story came in the early hours of the 17th — the cancellation of the power list.

In the early morning of July 17, in order to avoid the endless ranking of all nodes and make use of the ranking for publicity, Filecoin officially deleted the ranking.

At this time, we will focus on the eyes of the block list, the list of the first place t01475 once again into the public view.

People started asking in the community,

“Who, t01475?”

“I am t01475”

“I’m the only one who can get the real thing.”

“T01475 is yours?Be funny.”

It is difficult to distinguish the true from the false in a short time.

But until the deadline, no one had officially proved publicly that they were the real t01475.

Why doesn’t he want to go public?

Why did he avoid it?

三、Attack? Split ends? The test?

The climax of the story took place on the 18th.

At around 18:00 on the afternoon of December 18, Filecoin test network suddenly produced abnormal blocks. At 18:40, there were only four nodes on the block list: t01220, t02213, t01366 and t01081.

The Blocks were then blocked for half an hour, causing the entire network to fail, leaving the Blocks Won section of the Lotus dashboard empty.

This has reignited the community debate, is it a fight or a deliberate act?Who’s forking?Who launched the attack?

Not long after, node t01475 suddenly appears first on the block list, and then the whole chain starts to block again, repackaging the block information.

Around 20:30, the network returned to normal, and other nodes gradually reappeared on the list.

It is reported that on the same day, multiple nodes tried to use the time migration vulnerability to obtain a higher block rate, but triggered the burst block exception, t01475 first found the problem, by creating a fork, filtering out the problem message, so as to keep the chain running until the official submission of the patch.

After the network returned to normal, miners with technical background also began to look for t01475 in the community.

Some say 1475 is a big contribution.

Some say he’s a low-profile tech mogul.

Some say he is by far the biggest dark horse.

For a while, 1475 became synonymous with technology.

The story did not end. On 19th and 20th, the test network operation and maintenance again appeared problems. 1475 assisted the authorities to successfully repair the network at two critical moments.

At 22:35 on the 20th, Kubuxu, the official core developer, publicly congratulated t01475 on his contribution to restoring the network on Slack.

四、Test net, “test” net

On the day of the test, the official time window of the main network was announced:

Testnet phase 1: December 11 — January 17, 2007.

Test network phase 2:20 20 jan 20 solstice March 20.

Main network startup window: March 23, 2020 solstice April 24.

That is to say, the real main network is still three months to go online, and the real purpose of the test network is to allow the nodes to test mining and detect the potential problems and stability of the network before the main network goes online. Only when the test network can withstand more attack tests, can it really benefit the network security of the main network after the network goes online.

The heart of the test network is for “testing”.

So this constant problem, problem solving phase is going to be the norm.In the process of operation and maintenance, any foreseeable and unforeseeable story will happen.

This is the test field of node miners’ technical strength, analysis ability and strain speed, as well as the competition field of each miner.

五、Everybody’s 1475

On the morning of 19th, Keren, the official community leader of the real 1475 torte Filecoin, spoke out in the Chinese community:

1475 just wants to work with the authorities to make Filecoin a more secure and stable network. I don’t want you to look for 1475 again.

Thanks for your attention, but still want to maintain a mysterious identity.

I hope you will pay more attention to Filecoin and make the network more perfect.

Keren then visited the 1475 team on behalf of officials to thank them for their support.

One community member, who declined to disclose personal information, said:

“The t01475 only used four miners to participate in this test, and the spelling power was not advantageous.”

“The test net phase is just a trial run, t01475 doesn’t want to be too high profile.”

Before going to press, I confirmed with t01475 again that he still does not want to be publicly identified.

Who t01475 is, it seems, has become less important.

It is just a miner’s code for the first stage of the test network, which will soon be followed by the second, and the node t01475 will be randomly changed.

The decentralized storage system has a high demand on the development ability and operation and maintenance ability of the technical team. Only more people participate in the decentralized network can make it bigger and stronger.

Be used by more people, benefit more people.

So, from another perspective:

Everybody’s “1475.”
